Description This sophisticated floor lamp was created just one year before Jacques Vidal would go on to form the celebrated lighting design firm Verre Lumière with Max Ingrand in 1968. In this way, this piece can be viewed as a precursor of what was to come. But even taken alone, this lamp is striking: Shiny black iron is the sole material, forming the tripod base, the thick chain tube, and the flower-like shade. The latter is especially imaginative, with sleek black petals folding open around the bulb and the golden interiors creating depth and dimension (as well as powerfully reflecting and amplifying the light from the bulb). A rare find, this piece is a gorgeous example of French mid-century modernism.
