Pair of porcelain wall sconces by Meissen
-
Description
This exquisite pair of German Rococo style Meissen sconces feature beautifully encrusted porcelain flowers and petals and exceptionally finely hand-painted passages. In their unmatched quality, the pair epitomises the very best of the Meissen porcelain factory.
Each of the two sconces features a diamond form back plate, the edges beautifully shaped with expansive foliage. The central panel of the back plate is defined by a rich red drape, in front of which, in each light, sits a nude figure—one male, the other female—accompanied by a cherub. Each sconces supports two branches, each supporting a single candle holder.
The back plate of each sconce is signed, underglaze, with blue crossed swords—the signature of Meissen. -
