Description
This Mid-Century Modernist column lamp, designed by the celebrated Paul Mayen for Habitat in the 1960s, exemplifies the sleek, minimalist design ethos of the period. The subtle curves and unified material presence of this monolithic table lamp beautifully exemplify the minimalism and geometric sensibilities of the period.
The body of the lamp is crafted from milk glass, which glows beautifully when illuminated. The milk glass creates a soft, diffused light, lending warmth and sophistication to any space. The column rests on a set of minimal chrome fittings that support the base and internals by piercing the glass shade at which introduce a polished, reflective surface that contrasts beautifully with the matte translucence of the glass. The chrome detailing underscores the lamp’s clean lines and adds a touch of industrial modernity, a hallmark of Mayen's work.
Known for his innovative designs that blend materials and create harmony between form and function, Paul Mayen worked extensively with Habitat, a brand that brought accessible modern design to discerning mid-century consumers. This lamp is a testament to his keen eye for simplicity and versatility; its timeless silhouette makes it ideal for various interiors, from Mid-Century Modern and Minimalist to Contemporary spaces. Newly rewired to American Standards, this lamp accommodates one Edison base bulb achieving up to 100 watts of light. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
