Description
Stilnovo rare pendant ceiling light model 1205 in brass and textured etched “Lunar” glass, Italy,1960s.
This distinctive Stilnovo suspension light model features a circular brass body fitted on both sides with gently convex textured glass diffusers, creating a sculptural disc-like form that can be appreciated from multiple viewpoints. The glass is Stilnovo’s characteristic “Lunar” glass, an etched and textured treatment named for its irregular surface resembling that of the moon. The broad polished brass surround curves gently around the glass, giving the pendant considerable depth while maintaining a simple circular profile. When illuminated, the textured glass softly diffuses the light while revealing the subtle pattern across its surface.
Suspended from a white electrical cord and retaining its original brass ceiling canopy. The overall drop can be adjusted by shortening the suspension cord, allowing the fixture to accommodate different ceiling heights.
This unusual single-light version of Stilnovo’s documented Model 1205 combines the company’s characteristic use of brass with its distinctive Lunar glass in a particularly sculptural, double-sided form. The design exemplifies the innovative approach to materials, form and lighting that helped establish Stilnovo as one of Italy’s most important postwar lighting manufacturers and a leading force in mid-century Italian design.
The diameter of the circular pendant light is 12.25 in. -
