Description
I have always had a soft spot for the asymmetrical (blame a very interesting haircut circa 1986), and this pair of wall lamps leans in just enough: two arms, slightly mismatched in height, creating that perfectly off-balance composition that feels intentional rather than fussy. Slender brass branches extend outward, each tipped with a small crystal pendant that gives off the faintest, most charming jingle if a breeze happens to pass through… but I digress, must be the warm spring breeze in my studio today.
Produced in Finland in the early 1950s by Valinte Oy, these lamps sit squarely in that postwar moment when Scandinavian design was refining its language of clean, functional objects. This is a quietly sophisticated pair with just enough personality to keep things interesting; the brass has a warmth that anchors the piece, while the opal glass shades keep the design feeling light and modern. That said, they’re versatile: swap in pleated fabric shades and suddenly you’re somewhere entirely different.
Priced as a set of 2
Approximately: 15.75" H x 13.75" W, Glass Shade: 5.5" H x 5" Diameter.
Valinte Oy was founded in 1942 by Finnish entrepreneur Into Lintero - the company’s name is actually a mix of valaisin (the Finnish word for lamp) and Lintero’s surname - a small but telling detail of its hands-on origins. Valinte specialized in thoughtfully designed, well-crafted lighting that balanced traditional materials like brass with emerging mid-century innovations such as opal glass and early plastics. While less widely known than some of its Finnish contemporaries, the company was very much part of the postwar design movement that defined the region’s aesthetic: functional, refined, and elegantly expressive. -
