Early Production Pair of Womb Chairs & Ottomans by Eero Saarinen for Knoll
-
Description
Seventy six years ago, Florence Knoll approached Finnish architect Eero Saarinen about designing a chair that she could sit in any which way that she wanted. Released in 1948, the resulting design and its enveloping comfort gained immediate popularity. Its name expresses its purpose: "It was designed on the theory that a great number of people have never really felt comfortable and secure since they left the womb. The chair is an attempt to rectify this maladjustment in our civilization."
This pair of early-production Womb chairs with matching ottomans were recently acquired from the estate of a retired architect. Both chairs and ottomans are in excellent original museum-grade condition and retain the orginal oyster white wool upholstery and the Knoll Associates label. -
