Description
This extraordinary lounge chair by Peter Maly for Thonet combines expressive lines with a sophisticated combination of materials. The interplay of polished chrome, black lacquered wood, and an artfully woven seat and backrest gives the design a distinctive appearance that is both elegant and modern.
The lounge chair is in very good vintage condition. The black plastic wicker of the seat and backrest is perfectly preserved and shows an even, taut woven structure. The chrome-plated tubular steel frame impresses with its beautiful shine. Only the black lacquered wooden elements show slight, age-related signs of wear, which do not detract from the well-maintained overall impression.
Characteristic of this design are the widely curved armrests, whose black wooden elements seem to float elegantly above the chrome-plated tubular steel frame. The flowing curves form an exciting contrast to the geometric structure of the black plastic wicker.
The seat and backrest transition into each other in a visually harmonious way. The slightly flexible woven construction adapts to the body and offers pleasant seating comfort. With a low seat height of only 42 cm and its generous, ergonomically shaped seat, the chair offers a relaxed seating position.
Particularly appealing is the combination of visual lightness and a striking, architectural design language. Despite its delicate construction, the chair has a remarkable presence. It is excellently suited as a stylish solitaire in the living area, as a comfortable lounge chair in an exclusive hotel lobby, or as a representative piece of seating furniture in sophisticated reception areas.
Peter Maly is considered one of the most important German furniture and product designers. Born in 1936, the designer developed an independent design language characterized by clear geometric structures, balanced proportions, and a consistent combination of aesthetics and function. His designs are characterized by timeless elegance and a high standard of material quality and comfort.
The long-established furniture manufacturer Thonet, whose history dates back to 1819, is one of the most important pioneers of modern furniture design. The company gained worldwide fame through its revolutionary bentwood furniture and later through the groundbreaking tubular steel designs of the Bauhaus era. The collaboration with renowned designers combines this design heritage with contemporary furniture concepts. - More Information
