Walnut Chest Of Drawers, Lombardy, Early 18th Century
-
Description
A superb early 18th century chest of drawers from Lombardy, masterfully crafted in rich walnut with architectural presence and secret functionality. The façade features four large drawers adorned with elegant mixtilinear paneling framed by finely molded borders. Ingeniously designed, the uppermost drawer opens as a flap to reveal a hidden writing compartment flanked by two banks of miniature drawers, four on each side, ideal for organizing papers and valuables.
The molded base and bracket feet provide a grounded, classical silhouette, while the original hardware and escutcheons contribute to the piece’s authenticity. With its refined craftsmanship and clever interior, this chest balances formal beauty with discreet utility, embodying the understated sophistication of early 18th century northern Italian furniture.
A rare and timeless piece for collectors and connoisseurs of antique cabinetry.
