Description
This elegant side table was designed by Carl Malmsten in 1936 as part of his renowned Berg series, a collection of distinctive three-legged tables. The particular example shown here was produced in the early 1950s and reflects the refined craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic that define Malmsten’s work.
The round tabletop is crafted from beautifully veneered Masur birch, featuring intricate marquetry arranged in a polygonal pattern radiating from the center. This design is enclosed by a circular border of birch veneer in a slightly contrasting grain, creating a subtle yet sophisticated visual effect. The top is supported by a central column that transitions gracefully into three curved legs, all made from solid birch wood.
The table remains in very good original condition, showing only minimal wear consistent with age and use. It is branded with Carl Malmsten’s initials, “CM,” stamped on the underside of the tabletop. -
