Rare Mahogany and Maple Vanity Table and Stool Attributed to Paolo Buffa

$ 22,800
  • Description
    Attributed to Paolo Buffa for Ducrot, rare and exquisite vanity table with matching stool, Italy, 1950s. Designed to be admired from every angle, the sculptural case features a softly curved silhouette, allowing it to float elegantly within a room rather than sit against a wall. Executed in richly figured mahogany with beautifully contrasting maple interiors, the dressing table is distinguished by its graceful curved form, refined proportions, and meticulous attention to detail. Beautifully reeded drawer fronts, finely crafted brass hardware, and tapered legs terminating in brass sabots demonstrate the exceptional level of craftsmanship associated with Ducrot and the sophisticated aesthetic for which Paolo Buffa is celebrated. The hinged top opens to reveal a concealed mirror and thoughtfully designed interior storage, preserving the clean architectural lines when closed while providing practical functionality. Multiple drawers, all lined in maple, offer generous storage for jewelry, cosmetics, and personal accessories.

    The accompanying stool mirrors the elegant lines of the vanity and completes the ensemble. The stool has recently been restored and newly reupholstered in a luxurious Holland & Sherry Brunswick Snow or ivory bouclé.

    This extraordinary vanity and matching stool is equally suited for use as a dressing table, writing desk, or sculptural statement piece within both contemporary and traditional interiors. The harmonious balance of organic curves, luxurious materials, and understated remarkable detailing exemplifies the refined glamour that defines the finest Italian mid-century furniture. This exceptional ensemble embodies the timeless elegance and superb craftsmanship of Italian mid-century design with Neoclassical and Art Deco influence. Manufacturer's metal plaque affixed inside top right vanity drawer.

    Ducrot was a prominent Italian furniture manufacturer founded by Vittorio Ducrot (1867–1942) in 1902 and based in Palermo. It was recognized for high-quality Art Nouveau (Liberty style) and Art Deco designs in the early 20th century. While active earlier than the classic midcentury modern period, his firm produced luxury, handcrafted pieces, including iconic ocean liner interiors.
