Figural Matchsafe in form of Scientific American Newspaper

    This is a rare example of a mixed metal match safe or vesta, designed as a rolled up Scientific American Newspaper with a gilt silver band enameled with a one cent stamp, New York Postmark and 6 pm , 1908. Finely detailed and in excellent original condition, the back of the newspaper shows three enamel "wax seals". One end flips open to hold the matches which are meant to struck on the rolled up paper end. Can also be used as a pillbox. Measures 2 1/4 inches long by 1 1/8 inches wide by 1 inch deep.
