Description
Russel Wright Lounge Chair for Thonet. Iconic American Mid Century Lounge Chair designed by Russel Wright produced by Thonet. Solid maple wood frame legs, well built spring bound wooden carriage body with foam cushioning and Faux Shearling fabric, in very good like new condition. Professionally restored maintaining the original maple wood color with faux shearling fabric. A streamlined silhouette that showcases modernism. Minimal clean lines with modern style. Russel Wright created a succession of artistically distinctive and commercially successful items that helped bring modern design to the general public. His simple, practical style was influential in persuading ordinary Americans to embrace Modernism in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Wright's trademarked signature was the first to be identified with lifestyle-marketed products. American modernism CA 1950
Wright designed a succession of popular furniture lines for many furniture companies beginning in the early 1930s through the 1950s. Wright began designing furniture in 1934, including the first sectional sofa introduced by Heywood-Wakefield at Bloomingdale's. In 1935 he designed a natural maple line of furniture called Modern Living, made by Conant Ball Company for Macy's that was widely promoted. The popular line was later called American Modern, produced in bleached "blond" maple, and made Wright famous. -
