Description
Large clear and red cut glass chandelier
Continental, 20th Century
Height 108cm, diameter 108cm
With its sensational design, this chandelier effectively conjures up the opulence of the Belle Époque period. The red glass central stem of the chandelier separates into two tiers of curving arms. The lower tier ends in a large number of hurricane shades with waved rims, which are all beautifully etched with flowing foliate designs. Each shade is mounted on top of a piece of floral-shaped cut glass, with stunning droplets around the outer edge.
The upper tier is purely decorative rather than having a lighting function, with each curling arm ending in an incredible falling column of floral and droplet pendants, drawing the viewer’s attention to the deep red colour of the glass. At the base and middle of the chandelier are further droplet-style decorative elements.
Impressing with its lavish design and vibrant colour contrasts between the clear and vivid red glass, this showpiece would make a fabulous addition to the appropriate interior. -
