Description
This exceptionally rare set of three chairs was designed by Bo Fjaestad and produced in Sweden in 1955. Each chair is hand-carved and bears the designer's signature "BF-55." The chairs were crafted at Fjaestad's own workshop, Arvika Konsthantverk.
The striking design features a three-legged base, with each leg consisting of three intertwining elements. The seats are organically rounded, triangular in shape, with spindled backrests and an organically shaped top rail. The chairs are made entirely of solid birch wood. This versatile design makes the chairs suitable as side chairs, dining chairs, or even occasional desk chairs. The chairs are in very good condition, partly restored while respecting and retaining the original patina on the wood.
Bo Fjaestad (1881 –1961), the son of renowned artists Maja and Gustaf Fjaestad, worked as a furniture maker, painter, and sculptor. He was known for his finely crafted furniture, often working with solid wood, particularly birch, and incorporating organic, sculptural forms. Fjaestad was part of the Rackstad colony, a group of artists and artisans in Sweden known for their dedication to traditional craftsmanship and natural materials. His furniture designs, characterized by clean lines and folk influences, remain highly sought after in Scandinavian design circles. -
