Description
A charming and elegant Hollywood Regency-style Chiavarina chair from the 1950s. The design is based on the original 19th-century creation by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi from the Italian town of Chiavari. This distinctive chair is made of polished solid brass, with a backrest top that resembles a crown or bat wings — hence it is often referred to as a “Bat Chair.” Originally designed as a ballroom chair, it is highly versatile and can be used as a dining chair, side chair, desk chair, or even as a statement piece in a bathroom or vanity area. The chair is in overall good condition. The brass still retains its shine — which is not always the case with these pieces. There is a charming patina, most notably on the front right leg, but it is considered not distracting. The seat has been reupholstered in a luxurious Italian fabric featuring a golden-beige and black floral leaf pattern.
Measurements: Height: 36“, Seat Height: 17.5“, Depth: 15“, Width: 16"
The Chiavari chair, named after the coastal town of Chiavari, was first crafted in the early 1800s by master artisan Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi. Known for its elegant spindle-back design and exceptional lightness, it has been handcrafted in Italy for over two centuries and remains a lasting symbol of refined craftsmanship. -
