Romeo Rega Pair of Lucite and Brass Side Tables, Italy 1970s
-
Description
This pair of side tables is composed of thick Lucite legs, transparent glass shelving, and a linear brass frame. The twin cylindrical legs are joined by heart-shaped brass collars at each corner, a distinctive design element often attributed to Romeo Rega’s studio. Rega, a key figure in the Italian Radical Design movement, often experimented with lucidity and light reflection in his work, pushing materials like Lucite and brass beyond their functional roles to become active elements in the overall visual composition.
Design
Each table features two levels, glass surfaces framed in solid brass, offering both utility and minimal visual weight. The clarity of the materials allows the geometric form to float in space, making the pair well-suited for contemporary interiors, especially those that balance vintage glamour with minimalism. The visual lightness created by the transparency stands in contrast to the weight of the brass, giving the composition a precise equilibrium.
With its refined detailing and clear 1970s aesthetic, this pair reflects the era’s fascination with transparency, space, and glamorous materials.
Condition
Overall in good vintage condition. Patina on the brass fittings and light surface scratches on the glass consistent with age and use. Lucite legs remain clear with only minimal signs of wear. -
