Description
Created in the 1970s, this sculptural lamp showcases a tension between precision and expression.
Design
Carved entirely from solid wood, the design alternates between polished curves and roughly hewn surfaces. One side of the lamp features dynamic openings and sculpted recesses, suggestive of tribal motifs or modernist abstraction.
The opposing face is treated with a textural finish and a vivid green-black pigment, giving the impression of oxidised bronze or scorched earth. This surface, though made of wood, evokes geological depth and movement, enhancing the piece’s visual complexity. The central void, punched cleanly through the lamp’s core, allows light to animate the form from within. A rectangular element bridges the open space, reinforcing the structure while drawing attention to the lamp’s spatial play. The round shade in neutral textile provides balance, softly diffusing the light above the expressive body. Signed “G. Pinna” at the base, the lamp reflects a singular approach to sculptural furniture-making, grounded in craftsmanship and an instinctive use of material.
A sculptural lighting object carved entirely in wood, this piece fuses Italian artistry with a near-architectural sense of form and mass.
Condition
In very good vintage condition. Minor surface wear and a few irregularities in the pigment layer are consistent with age and enhance the work’s material character. The current shade can be included for €200. -
