  • Description
    This powerful cast iron fireback was designed by Arthur Osborne and manufactured by Wellington and Burrage, Boston, copyrighted in 1882. It was entitled "Fire Fiend" and is identical to a labelled example in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. It is marked with an impressed "9" on the back which matches the number and description in the Wellington and Burrage 1882 catalogue which is photographed. Though created for a fireplace, this piece would make an extremely effective wall decoration.
