Description
A beautifully understated Mid-Century Modern table mirror that embodies the Scandinavian philosophy of balancing functionality with sculptural simplicity. Executed in solid brass, the mirror consists of a clean rectangular frame housing a circular double-sided mirror that rotates effortlessly around its central axis, allowing either side to be used with ease. The interplay between the geometric frame and the floating circular mirror creates a refined architectural composition that feels both practical and artistic.
The untouched brass has developed a rich, warm patina over the decades, giving the piece exceptional depth and character. Rather than polishing the surface, we have chosen to preserve its original finish, allowing the mirror to tell its own story through the natural aging of the brass. The restrained form and elegant proportions evoke the work of Scandinavian masters and would not look out of place alongside designs by Paavo Tynell, Josef Frank, or other leading Nordic designers of the period.
Versatile in both function and placement, the mirror is ideal for a dressing table, vanity, desk, bathroom, or bedroom, while its sculptural quality allows it to stand comfortably as a decorative object even when not in use. The rotating double-sided mirror adds a subtle element of movement and interaction, making the piece engaging from every angle.
The mirror remains in good original vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. The brass retains its untouched original patina, including the remnants of two old stickers that we deliberately chose to leave in place rather than disturb the surface and its decades of natural aging. The mirror plates display minor spotting, entirely consistent with their age, further enhancing the authentic character of this elegant Scandinavian modern piece. Maker and designer remain unknown. -
