Description
An exceptional and rare large-scale silver-plated punch bowl by celebrated Mexican designer Emilia Castillo, handcrafted in Taxco, Mexico during the 1980s. This impressive sculptural centerpiece beautifully exemplifies Castillo's signature fusion of modernist design, traditional Mexican silversmithing, and naturalistic motifs.
Raised on an elegant pedestal base, the generously proportioned hand-hammered silver-plated brass bowl is adorned with an exquisite inlaid butterfly composed of semi-precious stones including malachite, jasper, turquoise, and black onyx. The pedestal is further embellished with sculptural flowers and leaves fashioned from carved stone, copper, and silver-plated elements, while graceful scrolling vine details wrap organically around the form, creating movement from every angle.
The interior retains its original hand-hammered finish, reflecting the exceptional craftsmanship associated with Emilia Castillo's Taxco workshop. Both functional and highly decorative, this monumental vessel serves equally well as a punch bowl, centerpiece, floral cachepot, or statement decorative object.
Pieces of this scale and complexity are seldom encountered, making this an outstanding example of late 20th-century Mexican modernist decorative arts.
