Swisslamps Schwenkomat Table Lamp Space Age, 1960

This table lamp comes from the traditional Swiss lighting manufacturer Swisslamps International (also known as Swiss Lamps International or SLZ), which significantly shaped the Swiss lighting scene in the 1960s and 70s with its high-quality metalwork and characteristic Space Age design. The Schwenkomat model was developed by the in-house SLZ team and remains one of the brand's most famous designs to this day – a design classic that impressively combines functionality with the clear, reduced design language of that era.

The lamp is in very good condition: the chrome base and swivel arm are immaculate and show no significant signs of wear, as is the Plexiglas shade, which is free of cracks and scratches. The lamp is fully functional, has three light sources that can be switched separately, and is operated via the original pull switch.

The special feature of this lamp lies in its ingenious swivel arm mechanism, which also gives it its name: thanks to two joints, the arm can be extended almost infinitely, and the large, hemispherical shade can be swiveled into almost any desired position – ideal for directing light precisely where it is needed, whether as a reading lamp or for indirect room lighting. The voluminous Plexiglas shade acts as both a diffuser and a reflector: it softly diffuses light downwards and simultaneously illuminates its entire surface, creating a pleasant, glare-free lighting atmosphere. The solid, disc-shaped base made of polished chrome also gives the lamp a secure stand and, with its glossy surface, emphasizes the clear, technically elegant aesthetic of Space Age design.
