Description
An exceptional Dutch mahogany display cabinet, circa 1760, housing a remarkable collection of Chinese miniature porcelain from the Kangxi period (1662–1722). The finely crafted cabinet, with its elegant shaped cornice, glazed display section and rich brass mounts, provides a rare historic setting for this refined group of blue-and-white porcelain miniatures. The ensemble reflects the long Dutch tradition of collecting Asian porcelain and luxury objects. Such miniature displays formed part of a broader culture of collecting and domestic display among affluent Dutch households, a tradition vividly represented by the celebrated dolls’ houses preserved in the Rijksmuseum.
