Description
An A. D. Copier Leerdam Unica vase in purple glass with white tin craquelé, dated 1928–1929. Made by Glasfabriek Leerdam in the Netherlands, the vase combines a rounded body with pronounced vertical ribs and a compact foot.
Blown into an optic mould, its ribbed form creates alternating bands of smooth purple glass and intricate, lace-like craquelé. The contrast gives the surface depth and rhythm, while changing light reveals shades ranging from deep violet to luminous pink.
Formerly in the Meentwijck Collection, this is the actual vase illustrated at the left of the group photograph in Toegepaste kunst 1890–1940, pp. 42–43, fig. 45. The accompanying catalogue entry records it as a signed and dated Unica, made in purple glass with white tin craquelé.
Combining an expressive silhouette with a published collection history, this vase offers a distinctive focus for a collection of A. D. Copier, Leerdam Unica or Dutch Art Deco glass. -
