Aldo Londi

Italian, 1911 - 2003
Aldo Londi (1911-2003) was an Italian ceramic artist and designer who is best known for his work with the iconic Italian ceramics company, Bitossi Ceramiche. Born in Montelupo Fiorentino, Italy, Londi began his career as an apprentice in a ceramics workshop, and later studied at the Institute of Art in Faenza. He joined Bitossi Ceramiche in 1946 and remained there for over 50 years, becoming the company's artistic director and creating many of its most famous designs. Londi's work was characterized by its use of vibrant colors, bold geometric patterns, and textures inspired by nature. He also experimented with different glazing techniques, including metallic and iridescent finishes, and often incorporated unusual materials such as lava stone into his designs. Today, Londi's works are highly collectible and can be found in museums and private collections around the world.
