Boman OY

Finnish
Boman OY (Oy N. Boman Ab) was a distinguished Finnish furniture manufacturer founded in Turku in 1871. Under the visionary leadership of Carl-Johan Boman—one of Finland’s first formally trained interior architects—the company evolved from traditional bourgeois furniture toward iconic functionalist Scandinavian Modern design. Renowned for its elegant curved sofas and lounge chairs in birch with sculptural backs and luxurious upholstery such as wool, sheepskin, jade-green and ivory velvet, as well as its streamlined vanities and occasional tables in ash, birch or mirrored finishes, Boman OY showcased its work at prestigious exhibitions like the Milan Triennale and the “Design in Scandinavia” tour. Boman OY, historically known as Oy N. Boman Ab, officially ceased operations in 1967. The company was sold to Wärtsilä in 1955, and furniture production under the Boman name continued until its closure in 1967. Today, Boman OY pieces remain coveted by collectors and interior designers worldwide, embodying the enduring legacy of Finnish mid-century modern craftsmanship.
