Arne Vodder

Danish, 1926 - 2009

Arne Vodder (1926‑2009) was a celebrated Danish furniture designer and architect who studied under his mentor Finn Juhl and co‑founded a design studio with Anton Borg in 1951. He achieved international acclaim in the 1950s and 1960s for his furniture crafted in rosewood and teak, marked by fluid organic lines, simple forms and subtle detailing. Vodder’s signature piece, the “29A” sideboard, exemplifies his commitment to quiet elegance and functional design—favoring handle‑free drawer lips and softly rounded edges. His furniture found a global audience, appearing in executive offices, embassies, and high‑profile residences—including the White House—thanks to collaborations with leading manufacturers such as Sibast Furniture. His enduring influence is rooted in the blend of craftsmanship and modernity, securing his place among the foremost architects of Scandinavian mid‑century design.
