Description
Part of the Artemis collection—an extensive series dedicated to stylized animal forms—this sculptural horse exemplifies the collection’s exploration of silhouette and surface articulation. Conceived as a flat, profile-based composition, the work reduces the figure to its essential contour while preserving a strong sense of presence and movement.
The horse’s head and neck are rendered in a continuous, flowing outline, with the mane articulated through rhythmic linear incisions that introduce depth without interrupting the planar integrity of the piece. The surface is animated by an intricate, topographic patterning that follows and disrupts the form simultaneously, creating a dynamic interplay between graphic line and sculpted edge. This layered treatment reinforces the object’s dual identity as both relief and freestanding sculpture.
Its restrained thickness and clean perimeter underscore the modernist inclination toward clarity and reduction. The flat silhouette allows the profile to read immediately, while the detailed surface invites closer inspection. The original label remains intact on the underside, affirming its place within the broader Artemis series.
An articulate example from a collection devoted to the animal form, this piece reflects the Brazilian modern interest in stylization, repetition, and graphic abstraction—where contour, pattern, and material converge in a singular, resolved object. - More Information
