Chris Lebeau Signed Unica Glass Vase for Moser, 1927

A signed and dated Unica glass vase designed by Chris Lebeau (J.J.C. Lebeau) and executed by Ludwig Moser & Söhne in Bohemia in 1927. Formerly in the Meentwijck Collection, this is the actual vase illustrated in Toegepaste kunst 1890–1940, fig. 237.

The vase combines a broad, flared rim with a vertically ribbed body and a rounded foot. Dark purple-blue decoration follows the contours of the glass, giving the form a strong architectural rhythm. Fine granular effects contrast with the smooth, flowing profile, revealing changing details as light passes across and through the vessel.

The accompanying catalogue entry describes colourless semi-crystal glass with purple-blue glass powder applied to the wall, blown into an optic mould and subsequently free-blown and shaped. It also records the vase as signed and dated 1927.

Its expressive form, documented technique and published collection history give this work particular interest within Lebeau’s experimental glass production. A distinctive acquisition for collectors of Chris Lebeau, Moser art glass and European Art Deco.
