T.A.C. Colenbrander for RAM: Pair of Cathedraal Covered Vases, c. 1922

Price Upon Request
  • Description
A pair of ‘Cathedraal’ covered earthenware vases designed by T.A.C. Colenbrander for RAM, Arnhem, circa 1922.

Standing 61 cm high, the vases combine sculptural silhouettes with vivid polychrome decoration. Cobalt blue frames rhythmic passages of yellow, green and magenta, evoking the luminous richness of cathedral stained-glass windows. Elaborate finial-topped covers complete the balanced composition.

The design has a notable exhibition history: a garniture in the ‘Cathedraal’ pattern earned RAM a gold medal at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris.

Presented together, these substantial vases form a striking focal point for a collection of Dutch art pottery or a carefully curated interior.
