Description
A signed and dated Unica glass bowl designed by Andries Dirk Copier and executed by Glasfabriek Leerdam in 1927–1928. Formerly in the Meentwijck Collection, this is the actual example illustrated in Toegepaste kunst 1890–1940, pp. 42–43, fig. 45, right.
The bowl combines a broad, spreading rim with a deeply lobed body that narrows towards the base. Its flowing contours give the vessel a strong sculptural presence, bringing movement to the glass from every viewpoint.
The published catalogue describes lilac glass with blue glass powder and white tin craquelé, blown into an optic mould and shaped. The blue decoration contrasts with the lilac ground, while the intricate craquelé creates a delicate, branching network. Changing light reveals the depth of colour and the relationship between the decoration and the lobed form.
Acquired by Laseur Antique from the Meentwijck Collection, the bowl brings together a recorded signature and date, distinctive glassmaking and an identifiable publication history. An expressive centrepiece for collectors of A. D. Copier, Leerdam Unica and European Art Deco glass. -
