Frans Werner — Maja, Original Plaster Sculpture, circa 1930
-
Description
Frans Werner’s original plaster model of Maja, circa 1930, depicting a seated woman with a child and fruit. Rounded forms give this Dutch sculpture a powerful yet intimate presence.
This very work, held by Laseur Antique, is documented on the Amsterdamse School Platform Wendingen as the original model from which the limestone Maja at Amsterdam’s Stadionweg and Apollolaan was made. The entry records our gallery’s acquisition in 2025 and includes photographs of the plaster.
At 74 cm high, it is smaller than the public monument, offering collectors of Amsterdam School sculpture a documented connection to Amsterdam’s artistic heritage. -
