De Honsel Amsterdam School Lantern Pendant by H. Herens, circa 1921

Price Upon Request
  • Description
An early Amsterdam School lantern pendant lamp designed by Hendrik Cornelis Herens (1893–1934) for De Honsel, circa 1921.

Also known as Henk Herens, the Dutch glass artist and designer co-founded De Honsel in 1919 with Pieter Gerard van Cranenburg. His work forms part of the expressive decorative tradition associated with Amsterdam School lighting.

The elongated, faceted shade combines richly enamelled glass with a dark metal framework. Golden yellow and amber tones illuminate red ornamental motifs, while smaller decorated panels articulate the upper section. Its geometric structure contrasts with flowing decoration, creating a vivid interplay of colour, pattern and light.

With its slender proportions and pointed lower section, the lamp brings a distinctive sculptural presence to an entrance hall or intimate interior. An appealing early piece for collectors of Dutch decorative arts and Amsterdam School design.
