Description
Pair of large Sèvres style gilt porcelain mounted vases
French, Late 19th Century
Height 97cm, diameter 26cm
These beautiful vases are a pair of Sèvres style wares, in the manner of the renowned French porcelain manufactory, and were made in France in the early 20th century. Of elegant and slender baluster form, they feature domed lid, surmounted with brass pineapple finials, atop covers in a rich dark blue lapis porcelain ground.
The bodies of the vases are painted in the Rococo style, as is typical of Sèvres wares, with scenes of ladies (possibly Venus) with Cupid in an idyllic and ethereal classical garden setting. The paintings are signed 'Vr. Richard' for the artist, and the beautiful paintings are framed with exquisite swirling floral gilt decoration against a rich blue ground, to make an exceptional pair of decorative works, superb demonstrations of French Sèvres style artistry and craftsmanship.
