Description
Set of 12 Art Deco Silver-plated knife rests in the manner of Christofle
French, 20th Century
Fish (e.g.): Height 3cm, width 10cm, depth 2.5cm
This charming set consists of twelve Art Deco, and Cubist-inspired knife rests, in the manner of the instantly recognisable work of Christofle, the renowned and highly regarded French makers of silver and silver-plated works in the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. This set consists of pairs of lions, fish, rhinoceri, seals, flies and cockerels, each finely executed and delightfully finished. Christofle's work itself was inspired by the Cubist sculptor Edouard Marcel Sandoz, and this set is consistent with Christofle's excellent work and playful artistry. Both functional and appreciable as sculpture, this is a highly collectable set indeed.
