Emilia Castillo Silver Plate Armadillo Butter Dish with Malachite, Taxco Mexico

Her work eventually achieved an international audience, including a long association with Neiman Marcus beginning in the 1990s, while important commissions further established her reputation beyond Mexico. Today her designs form part of the continuing multigenerational Castillo tradition: Emilia's daughter Cristina Romo also became a designer and silversmith, extending the family's Taxco metalworking heritage into another generation.

For interior designers, architects and collectors, this armadillo is particularly compelling because it functions equally well as Mexican Modernist decorative art, luxury tableware, a cabinet-of-curiosities object, or a sculptural centerpiece.
