Jorge Zalszupin “Eva” Ice Bucket in Red Plastic, Brazil, 1970s

An icon of 1970s Brazilian design, the Eva ice bucket was created by Jorge Zalszupin, Paulo Jorge Pedreira and Oswaldo Mellone for Eva, a division of the Hévea plastics factory.

The design is defined by a pure cylindrical form rendered in vivid red molded plastic. Its restrained silhouette is complemented by a contrasting white insulated interior and a perfectly fitted circular lid. Two recessed openings integrated into the lid function as both graphic details and practical finger grips, while the matching red ice tongs complete the monochromatic composition.

The Eva ice bucket reflects an important moment in Brazilian design, when leading architects and designers began exploring industrial production and modern synthetic materials alongside the country’s established tradition of handcrafted tropical hardwood furniture. Plastic offered new possibilities for color, repetition and affordability, allowing sophisticated modern design to enter everyday domestic life.

Compact, functional and visually confident, the piece captures the playful optimism and technological experimentation associated with the 1970s. Its saturated color and reductive geometry give it a sculptural presence that remains remarkably contemporary.

Preserved in original condition and in great overall condition, complete with its original lid and matching ice tongs.
