Rare Tiffany Sterling Silver Footed Bowl in Historic Japanese Pattern

  • Description
    Japanese sterling silver footed bowl. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York. Kylix-form comprising round and shallow bowl on conical foot. Pierced and tapering fan handles with volute scroll mounts and inset cast and gilt-washed panels with blossoming branches. Mouth rim has interlaced c-scrolls and lunette suns. Foot has fretwork border with cranes, leaves, and blossoming branches.

    A rare hollowware piece in the historic pattern designed by Edward C. Moore for flatware that was first produced in 1871. Doubly rare because applied to Classical form.

    Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pre-1875 pattern no. 3501, and director’s letter M (1873-91). Very good condition.
