Description
Fabulous chic set of twenty-five framed Japanese paper collages c.1969 by Danish artist Olav Mathiessen. Assembled as a square it measures an enormous 90-5/8" x 90-5/8", each framed image measuring 18-1/8" square. Though these works are not signed and dated I found and purchased a small collage by the artist which is essentially a miniature version of the same design and it is signed and dated 1969. These collages were tacked up in the artist's studio till the time of his death. Olav Mathiesen was a Danish artist who was employed by the United Nations in NYC after its inception as a graphic artist designing stamps. He later moved his residence and studio to Westport, CT where he pursued his career as an artist.
