Pendant Light Model K3-58 n Cane, Opaline Glass and Brass by Maria Lindeman

$ 6,950
  • Description
    Maria Lindeman for Idman pendant ceiling light model K 3-58 in cane, opaline glass and brass, Finland, 1958.

    This lovely pendant features a square outer shade composed of closely arranged vertical cane strips woven together in horizontal rows. At the center is a white opaline glass diffuser formed from stepped cylindrical sections. The contrast between the square cane shade and rounded glass diffuser gives the model its distinctive architectural profile.

    A decorative element of looped brass wire surrounds the fitting above the glass, complemented by a shaped brass ceiling canopy. Each fixture is suspended from a white electrical cord, allowing the overall hanging height to be adjusted.

    The opaline glass diffuser produces an even, luminous glow, while the cane filters the light through its closely spaced vertical strips, adding warmth and texture and creating a subtle patterned effect around the shade. When illuminated, the combination gives the pendant an inviting and atmospheric presence.

    The combination of woven cane, opaline glass and brass gives the K 3-58 an elegant decorative character while retaining a clean and restrained overall form. Particularly appealing as a matching pair, the lights maintain the simplicity and visual lightness associated with Scandinavian Modern design.

    Professionally rewired for U.S. standards including UL listing.

    Also available as a pair of pendant lights. Price is per pendant. Pair of pendants is $13,900.

    Maria Lindeman joined Idman as an artistic designer after winning a lighting competition organized by the company in 1953 and went on to design lighting for Idman during the 1950s and 1960s. One of Finland’s most important lighting manufacturers, Idman played a significant role in the development of Finnish modern lighting during the postwar period. In 1953, the company acquired Taito Oy, the pioneering lighting firm co-founded by Paavo Tynell, bringing Tynell’s designs and influence into Idman’s production. Other leading Finnish designers associated with Idman included Gunnel Nyman, Mauri Almari and Tapio Wirkkala, placing Lindeman’s work within one of the most important centers of Scandinavian Modern lighting design.
