Description
In Sweden, “svensk design” in particular operates as a set of relations linking the everyday world - composed of objects, spaces, people - to the cultural ideologies that motivate the persistence of a social democratically infused “way of life.” Thanks to this sentiment, the cabinetmaker of this pair put an emphasis on soft elegance and functionality, making these chairs timeless in every sense of the word.
The subtle decorative qualities stemming from the early 20th century art movements and the simple lines deriving from the inter-war art movements give these chairs their elegance. Even though Scandinavian design is generally democratic and meant for the masses, pieces were not stripped of all beauty in order to make them as easy to use as possible. The design recalls Swedish designer, Carl Malmsten’s kind shapes and simple lines. These armchairs show the homely curviness that defined the design of the 1950s throughout Scandinavia. This pair has a lovely, elegant shape paired with an ergonomic construction, fulfilling the fundamental design principles of exceptional sitting comfort and that the models must look good from every single angle. Quality craftsmanship was evidently of optimum importance for the cabinetmaker who created these chairs. The backs are lightly bent and have stylish button tufting. The tufting stitches are festooned with five buttons on each chair.
The slender wooden legs prevent the chair from looking heavy, while their warm colour nicely contrasts the soft, light colour of the body. The elegant light bouclé upholstery highlights the beautiful shape of the bodies and the slender, wooden legs. With a classic look, storied design and solid quality, these chairs are truly soulful and timeless.
