Serpentine mahogany sofa, American c. 1840
-
Description
Sinuous serpentine sofa, a wonderful and unusual form. American c.1840, probably New York. Its simplicity and sculptural quality allow it to blend with pieces outside of its own period, and its sense of movement in space is more pronounced in person. Since these photos were taken the mahogany frame has been polished and it has been freshly upholstered in a plain Holland & Sherry blue-grey fabric. Updated photos to follow. Please note: this item is currently stored off-site and can be viewed at the NYDC Gallery by request.
