Description
This exceptional credenza was designed in the 1950s by Giuseppe Scapinelli for a private residence in São Paulo and produced by the esteemed workshop Fábrica de Móveis Finos Zullo Sonato. Crafted from richly figured caviuna hardwood—one of Scapinelli’s favored materials—the piece reflects his signature synthesis of Italian refinement and Brazilian modern expression.
The credenza features three cabinet sections, six interior shelves, four drawers, and six doors fitted with original brass handles. Its most distinctive element lies in the subtly curved side panels, which soften the rectilinear structure and lend the piece a sculptural presence. Elevated on four slender legs, the form maintains visual lightness despite its generous storage capacity.
Professionally refinished, the wood retains a luminous surface and deep tonal variation, with minor age marks preserved as part of its history. Manufacturer seals located on the back and inside one door confirm provenance. This credenza is a rare, museum-quality example of Scapinelli’s residential commissions during the height of Brazilian Modernism. -
