Description
This elegant coffee table was designed by Carl-Axel Acking and produced by SMF Svenska Möbelfabriken in Bodafors, Sweden in the 1950s. The design is marked by the rectangular teak top, veneered in beautiful checkerboard pattern. The alternation between lighter and darker squares of wood creates a striking graphic effect. The four round legs and connecting stretchers are in solid teak wood. The design is completed by the brass feet. The craftsmanship of SMF Bodafors is perfectly illustrated by all the refined details of this table. Significant Swedish designers such as Axel Einar Hjorth, Axel Larsson and Bertil Fridhagen designed furniture for SMF. Carl-Axel Acking was known for his intricately designed geometric patterns which were then executed in various wood veneers and other materials.
