Hanging Console and Mirror by Dino Cavalli for Tredici, Italy 1960s
-
Description
This wall-mounted console and mirror set, designed by Dino Cavalli for Tredici in the 1960s, captures the quiet elegance of Italian postwar design. Defined by clean lines and considered proportions, it reflects a sensitivity to both material and architectural rhythm.
Design
The console floats effortlessly against the wall, its horizontal form built from rich, dark-stained mahogany. Two drawers anchor either end, punctuated by an open central compartment. Each drawer features a recessed, linear pull, seamlessly integrated into a sculpted front. Precision-cut joinery adds a note of craftsmanship, particularly at the corners where angled inserts break the line with quiet sophistication. Above it, the matching square mirror is framed in solid mahogany, mitred and subtly faceted at each corner. The bevelled cuts and deep frame lend depth without overpowering. There is a strong sense of cohesion between the two pieces, underscored by the shared material and the purity of their execution. Cavalli’s work often reflects a dialogue between modernism and artisanal woodworking traditions—this set is a fine example of that synthesis. Likely intended for use in a bedroom or entryway, it’s functional without visual noise.
Condition
The mahogany surfaces are in very good condition with light signs of age and wear. The drawers open smoothly, and the mirror glass is clear and free of damage. -
