Description
Created around 1895-1900, shortly after the firm's triumph at the 1889 Paris Exposition, this white enamel gardenia brooch in 18K gold belongs to an enduringly popular Tiffany & Co. collection of orchids and garden flowers. Rare, diminutive and and exquisitely modeled, the brooch is a poetic example of Tiffany's long and multi-faceted exploration of the beauty of flowers.
Materials: 1 old mine-cut diamond (weighing approximately 0.15 carat); 18K Gold; Enamel
Gram Weight: 6 g.
Signed: Tiffany & Co
Condition: Some minor enamel restoration
Widely credited with Tiffany's success in firm's prize-winning jewelry display at the 1889 exposition, Paulding Farnham and his workshops continued to design gem-set and enamel blossoms. In addition to the 24 orchids shown at the fair, an additional 17 species were produced. To expand their offerings in this highly popular flower collection, the Tiffany Paris and New York salons offered beloved garden blooms such as heliotropes, mignonettes, lilacs, calla lillies, wood violets, and pansies. -
