Description
A pair of watercolours by (Albert) Gordon Thomas R.S.W ( 1893-1970), one titled ‘Summer Afternoon Weymouth’showing a gentleman’s motor yacht in the foreground and the other ‘Yachts at Weymouth’, with a ketch in the foreground and a column of smoke rising from the funnel of a cargo ship. Each signed ‘A. Gordon Thomas’. British, circa 1960.
(Albert) Gordon Thomas, (1893-1970) was born in Glasgow and studied at Glasgow School of Art, winning the Haldane Travelling Scholarship and studying under Maurice Gereiffenhagen. He was both a commercial artist and a teacher. As well as being a member of the Milngavie and Glasgow Art Clubs, with whom he frequently exhibited, he was made a member of the Royal Scottish Watercolourists in 1936. -
