Description
Pair of early Victorian cut glass chandeliers attributed to Perry & Co
English, c. 1840
Height 140cm, diameter 97cm
This superb pair of chandeliers is attributed to Perry & Co., one of 19th century Britain’s most esteemed manufacturers of fine crystal lighting. The firm, founded from a partnership in 1803 and established independently in 1817, earned royal warrants and supplied luxurious lighting to prestigious locations including Buckingham Palace and the Royal Pavilion in Brighton. Renowned for their meticulous craftsmanship, Perry & Co. continued producing exceptional chandeliers until the 1930s, leaving a legacy of some of the finest English examples ever created.
Each chandelier features a central column composed of stacked, moulded glass sections, expertly shaped to reflect and refract light with brilliance. The clear glass throughout is finely cut and sculpted, emphasising luminosity and artistry rather than colour.
Crowning each piece is a delicate glass finial, from which strands of faceted beads and droplets cascade, catching light from every angle to create a mesmerizing sparkle. Gracefully scrolled arms extend from a broad central dish to form the lower tier, each supporting a candle-style bulb set within a cut-glass bobeche adorned with hanging prisms. The arms are intricately twisted and moulded, their surfaces shimmering with crisp facets and flowing curves.
The chandeliers are further enhanced by suspended crystal prisms and sculpted beads, ensuring a captivating presence both from below and across the room.
Their symmetrical design and elegant proportions make them ideal statement pieces for any grand interior, bringing refinement, brilliance, and timeless charm to the space.
