Description
This sculptural set of six dining chairs exemplifies the refined elegance and expressive craftsmanship of Brazilian modernism in the 1950s. Designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli, each chair is distinguished by a gracefully contoured backrest, subtly curved seat, and tapered legs that culminate in a poised, architectural stance.
Executed entirely in solid Caviuna wood—a prized Brazilian hardwood frequently favored by Scapinelli for its depth of tone and fine grain—the frames have been meticulously refinished, revealing a rich, warm patina while preserving the integrity of the original construction. The chairs have been newly upholstered in an off-white textured wool bouclé, offering a soft tactile contrast to the sculptural woodwork and reinforcing their timeless, contemporary appeal.
Originally sourced from a private residence in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s former capital, this set reflects the sophisticated domestic interiors of the period, where artisanal craftsmanship met modern design language. Elegant yet restrained, these chairs are equally suited for formal dining settings or curated interiors seeking sculptural presence and historical depth.
A rare and cohesive set, representative of Scapinelli’s distinctive contribution to Brazilian mid-century design. -
