Description
A signed and dated Chris Lebeau Unica glass vase, made by Ludwig Moser & Söhne in Bohemia in 1929. Formerly in the Meentwijck Collection, this is the actual example illustrated and catalogued in Toegepaste kunst 1890–1940, p. 211, fig. 246.
The vase has a compact, rounded body, a short upright neck and gently articulated vertical ribs. Its substantial glass walls give the form a strong sculptural presence, while the pale violet colour becomes deeper and more concentrated as the light changes.
The published catalogue describes colourless semi-crystal glass decorated with purple glass powder and purple tin craquelé, covered by a second layer of glass and blown into an optic mould. This layered construction preserves the intricate, lace-like decoration within the glass, creating an engaging contrast between the smooth exterior and the complex pattern beneath.
Acquired by Laseur Antique from the Meentwijck Collection, the vase brings together distinctive craftsmanship, a recorded signature and date, and an identifiable publication history. An expressive work for collectors of Chris Lebeau, Moser Unica and European Art Deco glass. -
