Francesca Mascitti-Lindh Brutal Decorative Flowers Vase, Stoneware, Arabia 1970s

$ 4,490
  • Description
    A striking large stoneware art vase by Francesca Mascitti-Lindh for Arabia, Finland, dating from the 1960s–70s. Constructed from individual ceramic sections, the vase has a strong sculptural presence, with irregular edges, visible joins and openings that give the form its distinctive brutalist character.

    The richly textured surface combines earthy brown and charcoal tones with flowing cream lines and soft grey-blue details, suggesting stylised stems and leaves. These delicate botanical elements create a beautiful balance with the rugged ceramic body. The uneven upper rim and angular sides give the piece a different expression from every viewing angle.

    Measuring approximately 30 × 30 cm and 37 cm in height, this is a substantial piece that works beautifully as a standalone ceramic sculpture. Its earthy colours and architectural form would sit comfortably among Scandinavian furniture, natural woods or more minimal contemporary interiors.

    The vase is in good vintage condition, with two small chips on the inside of the upper rim. These are unobtrusive within the deliberately irregular edges of the design, but are noted for accuracy and shown in the photographs. The fragmented construction and openings in the body are intentional features of the piece.

    Signed “FML” and “Arabia” to the underside.

    Francesca Mascitti-Lindh (born 1931) is an Italian-born Finnish ceramic artist who worked at Arabia’s art department from 1955 to 1989. Educated in Rome and Helsinki, she developed a distinctive approach to ceramics, exploring the natural textures of clay, sculptural forms and expressive surfaces. Her work forms part of the rich tradition of Finnish studio ceramics that flourished alongside the international rise of Finnish design in the postwar decades.
